How long to use the the Breg VPulse

The duration and frequency of using the Breg Vpulse machine will depend on the individual's specific medical condition and treatment plan, which should be determined by a healthcare professional.

Generally, the use of the Breg Vpulse for DVT prevention and recovery involves intermittent pneumatic compression therapy, which means the machine inflates and deflates the leg sleeves in a specific sequence to improve blood flow. The therapy may last anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours per session, depending on the patient's needs and the physician's recommendation.

It is important to follow the treatment plan prescribed by the healthcare professional, including the duration and frequency of use, to ensure optimal benefits and safety.

Is the Breg VPulse a cold Compression Unit?

The Vpulse unit is both a cold compression unit and a DVT prevention machine. It serves a dual purpose for your surgical recovery needs.

Vpulse Patient Information, how it works and why it is important

The Vpulse machine works by providing intermittent pneumatic compression therapy to the legs. The machine consists of a control unit and two leg sleeves that are placed on the patient's legs. The leg sleeves have multiple chambers that inflate and deflate in a specific sequence, applying pressure to the veins and muscles in the legs to improve blood flow.

When the leg sleeves inflate, pressure is applied to the veins, which helps to push blood back up towards the heart. When the leg sleeves deflate, the veins and muscles in the legs relax, allowing blood to flow more easily through the legs. The sequence of inflation and deflation is typically programmed into the control unit and can be adjusted by the healthcare professional based on the patient's needs.

The use of the Cothera Vpulse machine helps to prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT) by improving blood flow and reducing the risk of blood clots forming in the legs. It is often used in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and home settings for patients who are at risk of developing DVT or have already experienced a blood clot.

Product Features*

Lowers Risk of Venous Thromboembolism (VTE): VPULSE lowers incidence of VTE after major orthopedic surgery compared to pharmacological prophylaxis. VTE is the leading factor for hospital readmission following major orthopedic surgery and the most common preventable cause of hospital death.

Provides Possible Alternative to Anticoagulants: VPULSE offers physicians another option to help tailor preventative care to patient risk and provides an alternative for patients contraindicated for anticoagulants.

Provides Convenient Home Therapy: As hospital stays continue to shorten, VPULSE provides a solution for patients to take home and keep. This allows facilities to offer mechanical DVT prophylaxis for the 2-3 weeks patients need it most, without the hassle of renting or servicing equipment.

Improves Patient Experience: Combining three therapies into one convenient device optimizes patient comfort during recovery. With motorized cold therapy and accompanying water bottles, patients avoid the hassle of frequently switching out ice cubes or gel packs.

Improves Compliance: The added comfort of cold and compression therapies may increase patient compliance compared to DVT prophylaxis alone. A removable data card records patient compliance to enable physician monitoring.

Lowers Total Cost: Bundled payment of care initiatives are driving single payment for an orthopedic episode within 30 days of surgery, including costly DVT readmissions. By reducing DVT-related expenses and potentially reducing costs for anticoagulant regimes or compression device rental programs, VPULSE helps reduce the total cost of the episode.
